Them Apples

Awwww, the smell of fall in the air and a computer that is again connected to the internet. Really, could there be anything better? After 3 days of no internet, A_ & _ finally got us hooked up again. It seems they gave us equipment that already broke. Afterall, the house was finished in March. How long should phone equipment work? Saturday morning I could see the little computers in the corner of my screen blinking again and I breathed a sigh of relief.

The leaves are starting to change finally and I need to wear a jacket in the mornings and sometimes all day! You are probably thinking — well of course, it’s October. Well, here in my city it was 87 on Friday. So it was so nice to think fall thoughts. That of course made me think of apples. I gave my kids some sliced apples with caramel dip yesterday and felt like such a good fall mother–especially when I finished off the caramel they left on their plates. Nothing like a tray of caramel and candied apples. So beautiful but I think they are  difficult to eat. First of all, they always seem to use the biggest apples they can find. I mean has anyone ever finished a candied or caramel apple at a fair? After you eat all the outside part of the apple with the caramel, what’s left? Candied apples are my least favorite and I always feel like my teeth are going to be left in the apple with that first bite. I already have to slather lotion on my face every night to fight wrinkes. I don’t want to have to clean my teeth in a cup every night too.

I also think they use the least tasty apples or at least the apples always taste bland after eating the sugary caramel. I doubt they pick the best apples. They just big ones since you won’t see the outside. This is my theory anyway, and I’ve been right before.

So yes, fall is here. Time for caramel apples, pumpkins, hay rides, soups, jackets, changing leaves, and little kids dressed like fairies and cowboys knocking at your door. Enjoy.

Off the Fence

I wasn’t going to do it. I was going to express my freedom to not express my opinion. I gave in. I guess I watched a few debates or one too many and decided I needed to vote this year. Or maybe it was when I received the offer from Omaha steaks and thought it said Obama steaks that I new it was time to register. Okay, some of you are so disappointed that it has taken me so long to register. Well, this wasn’t my first time registering, just the first time at my new address. And at my last new address. And… okay it’s been awhile since I voted. Please no lecturers on the privilege of being able to vote — I’ve heard them all. Just remember we also have the freedom in the US to not vote. Yeah, yeah, whatever.

Anyway, I registered okay. I will soon stand in some boring booth trying to understand what anyone stands for and if that even matters anymore. Yes, I’m a bit cynical. This is why I haven’t registered for awhile. And really, can you blame a bit of cynicism when the congressmen who are supposedly working for us haven’t been working for us and just passed a bill trying to clean up their mess? Oops, I let an opinion slip out, sorry. I’ll save the rest for the polls. And don’t even try to guess who I’m voting for. I will tell you this, his last name either rhymes with “too much pain” or “pajama”.
